そこに出てきた surface を今日は見てみましょう。

WATER/LAND
the top layer of an area of water or land
OUTSIDE/TOP LAYER
the outside or top layer of something
(LDOCE)
WATER/LAND とか OUTSIDE/TOP LAYER というのは小見出しというかちょっとした分類です。
同じ「表面」なのですけれど、水や陸の表面というときと、モノの外側というときではちょっと違うのですね。
COUILD では、これを一文で記述しています。
The surface of something is the flat top part of it or the outside of it.

LDOCE では、他にもこんな小見出しとともに、surface の他の意味が説明されています。
