予言？予想？

メールマガジンでは tarot（タロット）を取り上げました。
未来を占うときに使うとか何とかということで出てきたのが predict という単語。
今日はこれを見てみましょう。

to say that something will happen, before it happens
(LDOCE)
If you predict an event, you say that it will happen.
（COBUILD)
予言するということですね。
予言というとちょっと謎めいた感じがしますが、まぁ予言する、予想する。こんなところです。
ところで、メールマガジンをお読みになった方は、同じ文章を一度読んでいるはずです。
そう、tarot の説明がほぼこの通りでした。
もう一度あげておきますね。

天気予報は・・・ forecast ですね。

なにか材料があって、そこから将来を予想するというのが forecast ということです。
