メールマガジンでは「相撲」を取り上げました。

昔、私の周りには「相模」ナンバーの車が結構あったので、ついつい「すもう」と読むこともあれば「さがみ」と読むこともあるんだなぁと思っていたのですが、実は違う字です。

さて、今日は相撲の説明文に出てきた「レスラー」を英英辞典で見てみましょう。

A wrestler is someone who wrestles as a sport, usually for money.

ふむ・・・

wrestleするっていうのはどういうことでしょうね。

to fight someone by holding them and pulling or pushing them

If you wrestle with someone, you fight them by forcing them into painful positions or throwing them to the ground, rather than by hitting them. Some people wrestle as a sport.

組みつ組まれつで戦うこと・・・っていう感じでしょうか。

別に人が相手でなくてもレッスルすることはできます。

難問とレッスルするっていうと・・・

そう。

難問に取り組むっていうことですね。

ルー的にいえば「ディフィカルトなプロブレムにレッスル」ってことです（←まだ病み上がりってことで・・・）
