メールマガジンでは「砂」を取り上げました。

その説明文に出てきた「砂漠」も「ビーチ」もすでに取り上げてしまっているということで、今日のお題は「紙やすり」です。

紙やすりって英語で「サンドペーパー」って言いますもんね。

さびを落としたり、木材の表面を滑らかにしたりするときに使います。

これをふまえると、sand を動詞として使ったときの意味がわかります。

やすりなどを使って木や金属の表面を滑らかにすること。

サンドウィッチからの連想なのか、何かをはさむことを「サンドする」って言いますけれど、動詞の sand にはそんな意味はないのですね。
