メールマガジンでは morning を取り上げました。
朝起きた頃からお昼まで・・・ということでしたね。
そこで今日は、そこから先の時間帯をいくつか見てみましょう。

LDOCEの説明文だと evening の前まで・・と、ちょっと曖昧ですが、COBUILD だとだいたい18時頃まで・・・とあります。
それでは evening も見ておきましょう。

The evening is the part of each day between the end of the afternoon and the time when you go to bed.

昼と夜
これでおきてから寝るまでの時間帯は一通り出てきました。
あと、昼と夜を見ておきましょう。

昼はもちろん day ですね。

Day is the time when it is light, or the time when you are up and doing things.

私は沢木耕太郎の「深夜特急」を読んで、わずかではありますが東南アジアやネパールを歩き回ったクチですが、これを訳すと midnight express。
私が世界で2番目に好きなバンド EXTREME のギタリスト Nuno Bettencourt がアコースティックギターで演奏するソロも MIDNIGHT EXPRESS です。

「midnight sun」っていうのは、北極、南極なんかの、沈まない太陽を言うんでしょうか？
北欧の白夜も、これに当たるのかな？
でも、南半球では、白夜のようなものは、聞いた事ないけど。
樋口さんって、SEなんですか？
そうですね、沈まない太陽のことですね。
南極にも白夜ってありますよね。昭和基地での白夜というような映像を見た記憶があります。
SEかどうかは不明です（笑）。
アルゼンチンや南アフリカ、オーストラリアなんかの南方の方では、白夜のようなものは、あるのかなぁ・・・・。
中学校の地理では、白夜の記述は、北欧の部分で採り上げられていたように記憶しているけど。

セカンド・エディションって（笑）。
おそらく初版だと思います。もしかしたら、何かの生まれ変わりかもしれませんが。
北極圏で夏に白夜があるように、南極圏では冬（北半球の＝南半球の夏）に白夜はあるはずですね。
その時、北極圏では一日中、太陽が昇らない状態になっている訳で。
北極、南極とも行ったことは無いですけど。
