stem の意味

メールマガジンでは goblet を取り上げました。
そのときに 、以前にも出てきた stem がまた出てきたのでした。今日はこれを見ておきましょう。
まず、goblet で出てきたときの意味です。

the long thin part of a wine glass, vase etc, between the base and the wide top

The stem of a wine glass is the long thin part which connects the bowl to the base.

ゴブレットよりは、やっぱりワイングラスのほうがイメージしやすいのでしょうか（笑）。
あとはそれ以外の意味を見ておきましょう。

the narrow tube of a pipe used to smoke tobacco

前者は植物の茎です。
また後者はパイプの柄のことですね。
