メールマガジンでは「挨拶」を取り上げました。

仕事でいろいろな会社に行きますが、挨拶が非常に多いところもあれば、出社してきても何も言わずに席についてそのまま仕事・・というところもありますよね。

あなたの会社はどちらですか？

さて、今日のブログではいくつかの挨拶を取り上げてみましょう。

[good morning]
used to say hello when you are greeting someone in the morning

You say `Good morning’ when you are greeting someone in the morning.
(COBUILD)

[good night]
used to say goodbye when you are leaving someone or they are leaving at night, or before going to sleep
(LDOCE)

You say `Goodnight’ to someone late in the evening before one of you goes home or goes to sleep.
(COBUILD)

このへんはおなじみですね。

[hello]
used as a greeting when you see or meet someone
(LDOCE)

You say `Hello’ to someone when you meet them.
(COBUILD)

これも問題なし。

hello はもう一つ見ておきましょう。

[hello]
used when answering the telephone or starting a telephone conversation
(LDOCE)

You say `Hello’ to someone at the beginning of a telephone conversation, either when you answer the phone or before you give your name or say why you are phoning.
(COBUILD)

「もしもし」はよく使いますが、「あ、もし。ハンカチを落としましたよ」なんていうのは今はもうあまり使いませんね。

[after you]
used to say politely that someone else can use or do something before you do
(LDOCE)

If you say `after you’ to someone, you are being polite and allowing them to go in front of you or through a doorway before you do.
(COBUILD)

挨拶というのとはちょっと違うかもしれませんが「お先にどうぞ」ってところですね。

[thank you]
used to tell someone that you are grateful for something they have given you or done for you
(LDOCE)

You use thank you or, in more informal English, thanks to express your gratitude when someone does something for you or gives you what you want.
(COBUILD)
